Anything at all. Your choice. What's the most Hawaii way to get around?

Why do I ask, you say? Because I'm tired of hearing that the best-selling vehicle for nearly every state is the Ford F-Series. I'm more interested in what the best vehicle for the state should be.

Also, if you think the most Hawaii vehicle happens to be the F-Series, then by all means put it down.

And as always...

Choose wisely!

This is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a 51-part series of Opposodes where I gather OppositeLock's view of America in the form of cars. Have at it.

The answer is, of course, Miata.

Unfortunately, when I head to Maui at the end of Feb. I'll be in an Explorer. Sigh.

I work with a guy from Hawaii. He is a complete hillbilly (even though he's an actual Hawaiian). He owns five cars and they are all total piles of shit.

The locals, the younger guys anyway, seem to favor small trucks. I guess if you want to get away from tourists that's the vehicle to do it in.

I hear Wranglers are very popular there. Convertible for the sun, and plenty capable for bad road and trails and sand and such.

I need to go. :(

As someone who's lived there (although only for 1.5 years) there's at least three things that take priority: size, ride quality, and economy.

Oahu's deceivingly small, the roads are small and the parking lots are small, the HHR my parents bought was the perfect "big" size for the island. The roads are also of varying quality ranging from decently smooth to "oh god why isn't this road repaved?" so having a stanced Miata may not cut it if you want to ride around the island in comfort. Also, if you want to get to some of the better beaches you might want to have a 4WD Jeep to access those trails and rewarding views. Finally, gas is a mo-fo to buy, but that's the price of living in paradise.

TL;DR: Jeep Wrangler or Cherokee, Suzuki Samurai (best), or Baja Beetle.

I think that is a TJ, YJs had the square headlights (not that you can see the headlights in that picture).

Still, I think any Wrangler or CJ would be the correct choice for Hawaii.

When we went in '91, the "car for Hawaii" was this (at least according to the rental places).
